Samsung Galaxy S7 Power Button Not Working?

Having trouble with your Galaxy S7 power button not working? This seems to be a common problem for the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge devices. Users are reporting a problem where pressing the power button on the side lights-up the buttons, but doesn’t turn the phone on. Some people have also experienced an issue where the phone rings but the screen does not light up and is non-responsive.

Why doesn’t the S7 power button work?

At this current time, there aren’t any official reasons that have been released to suggest why this is happening. Some people seem to think it might relate to downloading a dodgy app.

How to Fix your Galaxy S7 power button

There are some simple troubleshooting steps you can take to fix your power button:

  1. Turn on Safe Mode to see if Malware is causing the issue
  2. Try a soft restart
  3. Reset to factory settings
  4. Turn off car mode
  5. If all else fails, contact your contract provider about repair or replacement

The first thing to try is to set your phone to Safe Mode and then try and use the power button. Malware is unlikely to be the cause of the issue, but, just in case it is, it is a really sensible idea to go into Safe Mode to check it isn’t a dodgy app causing you the problems. Especially try this if the issue started around the same time you downloaded an app. Don’t know how to set your Samsung to Safe Mode? Follow these step by step instructions:

To Turn On Safe Mode

  1. Turn off your phone
  2. Press the power key down and hold it down
  3. SAMSUNG will appear on the screen at which point you can let go of the power key
  4. Straight after letting go of the power key, press the volume key down and hold it down
  5. Keep the volume key pressed until the phone has stopped restarting
  6. Safe Mode will appear on the left, bottom corner of the phone’s display
  7. Let go of the volume key once you see Safe Mode
  8. Get rid of any apps you think are causing an issue

To Turn Off Safe Mode

  1. Press the power key down and hold it down
  2. Select restart

You might also want to simply hold the power and volume buttons down at the same time for a few seconds to see if a soft restart fixes the issue.

After you have done this, if it doesn’t reveal anything or fix the issue, try resetting to factory setting. You can find directions on how to do this here. Once your S7 or Edge has been reset, check you have the latest software.

If that still doesn’t fix the problem, it could be that car mode might be the cause of this issue. Quite a few users have suggested it was the cause of their power button fail, so it is worth a go turning it off to see if that fixes the problem. Unfortunately it’s not that straightforward to delete the app entirely, but here’s how to switch off car mode on your S7.

Still no luck?

If after all this the issue isn’t fixed, speak to your contract provider about a repair or replacement.
